Cartographers!

Today our class became cartographers - or mapmakers! We have been studying geographical features and map skills. For this activity, we each had a world map (oatmeal cookie), mapmaking tools (toothpicks and 4 colors of cake icing). Our job was to create a depiction of the lines of latitude and longitude, the Equator, and the Prime Meridian. We were given the following information for our map legend:

Longitude

Latitude

Prime Meridian

Equator

After completing the maps, we had to explain to Mrs. Lawrence what was what, and why we placed each item where we placed it. The best part...we got to gobble up our handy work after Mrs. Lawrence checked it. Who knew cartography could be such a tasty job?

Hamburger Paragraphs

We have been working diligently for the past 3 weeks on paragraph writing. To culminate our paragraph unit, we wrote about our favorite kinds of burgers. The students did an outstanding job on their paragraphs! We celebrated our culmination with lunch from McDonald's, which we go to eat in our classroom. While we were enjoying our McDonald's, we shared our paragraphs with classmates and our parents who came to share lunch with us.
